Quotable: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Quotable: Weekly Literary QuotationsWelcome to Quotable, a weekly feature at Bookish Ruth. Each Friday I'll share a short passage that caught my attention -- it could be an old favorite or something that jumped out at me during that week's reading. I hope you'll enjoy it and perhaps share something that resonated with you during the week.

Today I'm highlight a passage from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I reviewed Guernsey earlier this week. There are dozens of great lines that I could have chosen from this book, but this one really stood out to me as it's something that's true in my own life:
"That's what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book and that tiny thing will lead you on to another book, and another bit will lead you onto a third book. It's geometrically progressive--all with no end in sight, and for no reason other than sheer enjoyment."
-- Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows,
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, pp. 11-12

and that quote is perfect for my passion for all things Historical Fiction! You can't just learn about one king, and hey, you can't just focus on one country.. and it goes on and on :)
Off to read your review!

Great quote. I love this feature. Are you going to run this as a meme? I think something like this is a nice way to wrap up a week of reading/blogging!

I love this quote. I've seen it a few times since the book came out. It's definitely one of the reasons I have it on my TBR list. Thanks for sharing!

I love this feature and it is something I would like to do myself. Right now I am reading a book in Danish, so it doesn't make much sense to quote from that - but of course I could find an old favorite! In any case, I love this feature! I have this book on my TBR by the way, and everyone seems to love it,

Haha, the minute I saw the picture situated quite happily at the top of your blog, I was excited to read something--anything--of yours! I am entirely sure I'm going to enjoy reading this blog. You've got a new follower on your hands, and I've only read one post! Who can go wrong with "The Guernsey Book"? I remember pondering this quote as well, and am glad you chose it. I'm inspired to start a quotable-like thing on my own blog! Also, I can see the "Ruth Recommends" section to my right, and am pleased to see books that I enjoyed or am hoping to read. I have a feeling I am going to become a regular! Congrats on the fabulous book blog! I apologize for the over-dose of exclamation points and drab comment. I'm hopelessly tired and have been commenting to the point of no return. I'm worn out.

P.S. I love the name Ruth, by the way. (:

That quote is so dead on to what happens to me while I read. It will mention something that I need to look up..and then that leads to a book to read..etc etc...
